Jes Aznar

Jes Aznar is a documentary photographer based in the Philippines covering Asia and the Pacific. His personal projects focus mainly on the Philippines’ feudal present and the hegemony of conquering powers often challenging the dominant culture and the status quo. His documentary work on the peasant’s uprising inside the infamous Hacienda Luisita earned him the start of a career in photojournalism with Agence France Presse, and his long term project to document the complicated roots of conflict in the restive regions of southern Philippines, Mindanao, to work with the New York Times.

He recently won best in photojournalism at the 2014 Society of Publishers in Asia awards for covering typhoon Haiyan and is a fellow at the 2015 annual New York Times Photo Review.
